What Materials are Used for Stainless Steel Deep drawing Molds?

The material selection of stainless steel stretching molds depends on various factors, including the structure, size, production batch, and required performance characteristics of the molds. Here are some commonly used materials and their characteristics:

1. Hard alloy (tungsten steel): Due to its high hardness, wear resistance, and corrosion resistance, hard alloy is a very effective material option. Especially when the mold size is large or needs to withstand high pressure, hard alloy is a good choice.

2. Special alloy steel: This type of material usually has a small coefficient of thermal expansion, which helps to maintain the dimensional stability and good thermal conductivity of the product. They are suitable for large or irregularly shaped stainless steel stretching molds.

3. High speed steel: such as SKH-51 or DC53, these materials have high toughness and hardness, especially suitable for small batch production and frequent mold replacement.

4. Ceramic molds: such as silicon nitride ceramic molds, they are widely used for their high hardness, wear resistance, and corrosion resistance, especially in high-quality tensile processing.

5. Mold steel coating: By coating other materials (such as DC53 or 8503) on the surface of the mold steel, additional wear and corrosion resistance can be provided, while reducing the cost of the mold.

6. Cast iron and special wear-resistant cast iron: For large-sized stainless steel parts and material saving requirements in small production batches, cast iron (such as HT300 or QT600-2) can be used as convex and concave die materials.

7. Copper based alloys: For small and medium-sized stainless steel parts, copper based alloys (such as aluminum bronze, aluminum iron bronze, phosphorus bronze, etc.) are a common and economical choice.

In summary, the material selection of stainless steel stretching molds should be determined based on specific engineering requirements and budget. When selecting, consideration should be given to the material's wear resistance, corrosion resistance, hardness, toughness, and other related physical and chemical properties.
